Carbon Neutral Certification
ISO 14068-aligned Product neutrality
Achieve verified carbon neutrality for your product with our ISO 14068-aligned certification. The NCS Carbon Neutral certification confirms that your product has undergone full lifecycle carbon measurement, implemented meaningful reduction strategies, and offset all residual emissions using high-quality carbon removal credits.
Unlike unverified claims, this certification provides robust third-party assurance that your product’s climate impact is being responsibly managed, offering credibility, transparency, and international recognition.
Key Requirements
- Prior Certification: Product must first be certified under Carbon Measured
- Reduction Implementation: Evidence of implemented emissions reduction actions across the lifecycle
- Offsetting Residuals: Use of high-quality, independently verified carbon removal credits for all remaining emissions
- Standards Alignment: Full compliance with ISO 14068-1, including cradle-to-grave boundaries and Scope 3 inclusion
- Transparent Disclosure: Public reporting of product carbon footprint, reduction efforts, and offsetting details
Benefits for Your Organisation
- Credible Neutrality: Verified neutrality helps protect your brand from greenwashing claims
- Market Differentiation: Stand out from competitors relying on unverified or partial neutrality statements
- Stakeholder Confidence: ISO-compliant certification strengthens claims with procurement teams and consumers
- Risk Mitigation: Supports regulatory readiness and reduces exposure to reputational risks
- Transition-Ready: Provides a structured, verified step toward longer-term Net Zero or Circular product models
Carbon Credit Requirements
All offsets must meet the NCS protocol for high-integrity carbon removal. This includes:
- Validation under recognised international standards (e.g., VCS, Gold Standard)
- Demonstrated additionality (i.e., the project wouldn’t happen without the credit)
- Measures for permanence and leakage prevention
- Verified co-benefits for people and nature
- Publicly documented credit retirement
Credits must be applied within the product lifecycle boundary and quantified using the same functional unit as the footprint assessment.
Validity and Recertification
Carbon Neutral certification is valid for two years. Ongoing certification requires annual updates to your product carbon footprint, evidence of continued emissions reductions, and offsetting of all current lifecycle emissions.
